    Silver Eye Bird

Want to attract more birds to your back garden so that you can get a closer look at them with your new binoculars? Whip up a batch of these tasty Wild Bird Cupcakes from our friends at New Zealand Backyard Birds and you can guarantee that your garden will be an award winning bird restaurant in no time at all!

    Wild Bird Cupcakes

    Ingredients:

    • 3 cups of dripping
    • 1 cup of chunky unsalted peanut butter
    • 2 cup of uncooked oatmeal
    • 2 cups of bird seed or sunflower seed

    Method:
Warm the dripping and mix other ingredients into it before it hardens.
Once ingredients are combined, spoon the mixture into a paper lined cupcake pan. Cool the cupcakes until hard.
Serve as many cupcakes to your local bird as you wish and freeze any extra cupcakes until you need them.

Help your local birds survive the winter

Don't forget, in the colder months of the year, birds need all of the help that they can get to stay warm. Feeding birds in your garden not only allows you to observe them, but also gives them the food source and energy that they need to significantly increase their chance of surviving the winter. These Wild Bird Cupcakes provide birds with all of the nutrients they need, and feature the all important fats that give birds the high levels of calories they need.

If you don't have time to spend in the kitchen, then simply preparing some peanut butter on bread or toast and sprinkled with bird seed will work perfectly too and your garden guests will soon be fighting over the tasty treat. Silvereye's are especially huge fans of this simple snack.

For more tasty bird treat recipes and ideas, why not grab a cuppa and settle down on the sofa with the full back catalogue of New Zealand Backyard Birds newsletter - there's sure to be something which will tickle your birds fancy!
